        • "tab" is not "tap"
      • Unpronounced letters
        • pneumatic, knot, gnostic
        • comb, plumber
        • paradigm
        • time
    • Time
      • European - time is a Volume, an Area
        1 2 3 ... 12

        ...

        Examples:
        • Half-two
the volume of the hour is half-way to TWO so it is 1:30
        • Three-fourths two
the volume of the hour is three-fourths of the way to TWO so it is 1:45
        • Quarter twelve
the volume of the hour is one quarter of the way to TWELVE so it is 11:15

      • English - time is a Point
        1 2 3 ... 12
        ⇒ ⇒ • ⇒∗ ⇒ ⇒  ⇒ ⇒∗ ⇒ ⇒  ⇒ ⇒ ... ⇒∗⇒• ⇒ ⇒

        Qualifiers:
        • In English you are either going to some point in time (i.e. the hour 1, 2, 3, … , 12; an event)
          • 'til [i.e. five 'til two; five minutes 'til his arrival]
          • before [i.e. five before two; five minutes before he'll arrive]
          • of [i.e. five of two]

          OR

        • you are going away from it
          • past [i.e. five past two]
          • after (never used with half) [i.e. five after two; five minutes after he got there]

        Examples:
        • ∗ Quarter [ past / after ] one - 1:15
        • ∗ Half-two
As half neither uses the word "after" nor is it ever found before an hour, use of the word "past" is redundant and can be left out without affecting the meaning - this is 2:30

British usage, not heard in English
        • Three-fourths two
This one doesn't exist in any form of English
        • ∗ Quarter [ of / before / 'til ] twelve
the time is one quarter hour away from TWELVE so it is 11:45
